We were driving from North Dakota to Central Oregon when the alternator went out on our car. It was a 2001 Chevy Malibu. We had a tight timeline to get home due to work schedules and called John first thing in the morning. He said he could have it for us that day. We brought the car in by 9 a.m. and were walking out by 10:30 with a car running smoothly. We got home in time and didn't pay an arm and a leg. Great service, great prices and I strongly encourage people to patronize this business! It's rare to see customer service to this level anymore....Thank you!!

We've been going to Hill's for a very long time and I don't know how much longer they think we'd keep going with such a rude receptionist? Well guess what? today's the last day. I think the receptionist may even be one of the owners? hard to believe if that's true.

Brought our 1999 Pontiac Grand Am in since it Failed Emissions. Made an Appt w/Matt to drop it off. John was able to get it squeezed into their busy schedule, diagnose the issue, call us with a very Economical Quote and finish repairs the same day. Great Service, very Friendly people and awesome Customer Care. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a knowledgable Mechanic in Northeast WA.

This is the first automotive repair shop that I feel actually did a GREAT job. I was told so many different issues about my car from several shops, even that it would not last a week without over $2000 in repairs. I am a single mom struggling already so I can't afford that price.. So after 8 months I found Hills. After going in and getting an estimate they performed the work for $270 dollars. It actually would have cost more but the owner new I only had $300 dollars and worked with me. The whole team was compassionate, understanding and very professional. I feel bad for the young lady who feels so burned. As a woman this is the only place I would recommend to other females who have felt taken advantage of at other places. I think you need to keep in mind that even doctors need second opinions and sometimes finding one issue opens you up to finding other issues that the original problem was masking.
Thanks guys for helping me keep the faith in auto repair shops!!!

Awesome, honest, thorough fami...
Awesome, honest, thorough family-run shop! Not the cheapest place in town, but then, I wouldn't want that shop working on my cars. I have no reservations about these guys' integrity.

BAIT AND SWITCH -
I went ...
BAIT AND SWITCH -
I went there for a simple transmission diagnostic test. Hill's supposedly specializes in transmissions and has the equipment to accurately and efficiently diagnose transmissions.
First car - 19 year old female.
5/11/11: I took my 1993 car to John Hill/ Hill's Automotive for a transmission diagnostic test. My car was hesitant in shifting from 1st to 2nd. John Hill drove my car and put it on a diagnostic machine. He told me, "your transmission is fine but the Vehicle Speed Sensor needs to be replaced. Once that's done your problem will be resolved."
5/11/11: Paid Inv. #23974 @ $53.35 for Labor Description as "Diagnostic of Transmission".
5/20/11: Returned to Hills Auto. Cameron Hegwald (Auto Tech) removed and replaced the vehicle speed sensor, then test drove my car. The car still hesitated to shift from 1st to 2nd. He returned to the shop and put the car back on the diagnostic machine (2nd time). The diagnosis this time??? New Transmission needed! Estimate: $2,000.00.
5/20/11: Paid Inv. #24024 $290.84 for a Speed Sensor which did not fix my problem.
What's wrong with this picture?
$344.19 total spent a to get diagnosis.
I feel I was burned and I won't go back

I will only use this place for the warranty work on the part they finally might have fixed not sure yet. Otherwise if they were the last repair shop in Spokane I would just walk instead of go there.

I have been an auto technician for many years, but when I need specialized repair work done, I'm forced to take my vehicle to a shop. I needed an alignment done on a vehicle, and when I called Hill's Automotive, I was quoted $45 for an alignment. The price was unusually affordable, and yet I figured I would still give them a shot. I shouldn't have. Their work was less than satisfactory. I ended up having to bring the vehicle back to have them realign it because when I first picked up the vehicle, it drifted to the left, and the steering wheel was crooked to the right. Clearly the technician had not even test driven the car before claiming the job was done.
I was scoffed at when I took it back and demanded they fix it properly. I am a certified alignment technician myself, but simply without the equipment. They did finally align the car reasonably well, but completely missed the play in the front passenger side wheel bearing (this prevents an accurate alignment).
After the initial alignment, a growling noise was quite audible, and so I asked them about it when I brought the car back to them. They claimed it was the transmission. I replaced the wheel bearing myself since then, and solved the issue entirely.
They are not competent technicians. None of the issues on this car was a brand specific problem. They are similar issues that could be encountered on any brand of vehicle out there.
To top it all off, when I was billed for the alignment, there was an additional $5 fee for 'shop supplies'. I asked them what 'shop supplies' an alignment requires, and they defended their position with, "All the shops in town charge for shop supplies". The question I have for them: "It seems all shops in town try to screw over their customers. Does that mean you should too?"
I cannot recommend this shop to anyone.

I've been taking my cars and trucks to John for almost 20 years. Never had one single bad experience with Hill's Auto. Fast, friendly and more knowledgeable than anyone around. I don't even think twice about taking my rigs there or referring them to friends and family.
