Love Steve's place! Steve is really knowledgable when it comes to keeping older Volvo's running smoothly without spending a ton of money. Steve was no non-sense about what my car needed and what I could wait on. I will continue servicing my Volvo here for as long as I keep it.

My friends and I were visiting Bend for a week when I noticed that my 20 yr old Volvo was having mechanical problems. Steve rearranged his schedule the next day and repaired my car in a professional manner at an affordable price. I highly recommend his shop!

I was on a road trip from Cali to Seattle. Unfortunately, when we started our van one morning in Bend, OR, loud popping noise and steam came out of the hood. I turned off the engine immediately, waited a minute and tried again - Same thing happened. It's frustrating when your car acts up. It's even more frustrating when you are in an unfamiliar city, hundreds of miles from home. Since I know jack about cars, I didn't want to embark on a 3 hour drive from Bend to Portland without getting it checked. While waiting for the tow truck to arrive, someone from the Visitor's Center came out and handed me a Post It with Steve's number. After explaining what happened, Steve looked over my car right away. After about 20 minutes, he said he couldn't find anything wrong. He checked all the fluids and "all the regular suspects" but, nada. I was on my way with only an hour off schedule. And the best part? He didn't charge me. I would have been happy to pay for his time, but he wouldn't accept it. "We're here to help," is what he said. "Have a good trip." CAN YOU BELIEVE A MECHANIC DIDN'T TRY TO RIP ME OFF? Oh, just a heads up for those making the CA to Oregon trip. 1) It's illegal to pump your own gas (do not get me started on the inefficiency of this) 2) The leg between Bend and Portland has you going over Mt. Hood with no shoulder to pull over. FUEL UP and Try to do it during day light hours in case you break down. There isn't a gas station until you're over the mountain.

You can draw your own conclusion. I'm just telling you the facts. Took the car in for an oil change yesterday. Steve said I needed a new timing belt ASAP. He said the belt looked like the original belt, and had never been changed. I went home and checked my receipts to see if the belt had been changed. It had been changed about a year ago, Sept 9, 2011...by Steve's Place. My husband and I opened the hood to look at the belt, which looked pretty new to us. Needless to say, we are looking for a new mechanic.

Complete debauched improper installation of fuel systems. The mechanic had zip tied together parts. Fell off a week later and car broke down.
